When trying to decide on the best dog clipper, there are a few initial things to keep in mind, including – the type of grooming you expect to be doing, your dog’s breed and coat type and your budget. This is because different dogs require different grooming tools.
How frequently you use the clippers to groom will also be important.
Some pups only require a little trimming around their paw pads and face, for example, while other dogs have coarse fur that needs regular cuts to avoid tangles and matting.
Speed
This refers to the speed of the motor which operates the blade – the rotary speed per minute or strokes per minute.

The price of dog clippers varies greatly depending on the features, strength and durability.
There is a vast difference between professional dog clippers and home use clippers in terms of durability and features, and this is reflected in the price. It’s therefore smart to have a good idea of what kind of grooming you expect to be doing.
Dog clippers are one of those things where buying better quality is definitely worth it. Cheap clippers break easily, are not powerful – making the grooming a very long and uncomfortable experience for both you and your dog, and the blades tend to heat up more quickly, leading to painfully singed fur and skin.
Buying better quality, more expensive clippers can therefore save you time, money and pain.
Corded vs Cordless
There are advantages and disadvantages to both these options.
Cordless dog clippers are either battery operated or rechargeable.
They are fantastic, particularly for home use, where you might not have a convenient power outlet.
They also allow you to trim hard-to-reach places and can be very convenient for occasional clipping.
The disadvantage of cordless clippers is that they tend to be slower and run out of power quite quickly depending on the brand and the job (usually between half an hour to an hour), meaning that you may have to charge the clippers during the grooming session, making the process longer.
Corded dog clippers are generally faster and more powerful than cordless ones.
